IMPORTANT ZANTAC UPDATE: FDA Announced Zantac contains low levels of a cancer causing contaminant.

On Friday, September 13, 2019, the Food and Drug Administration announced it has detected low-levels of a cancer causing contaminant in samples of the heartburn drug, Zantac.

Although the FDA considers this a low-risk (similar risk to eating grilled meats), as a precaution, GANV patients are instructed to stop taking Zantac at this time.

Patients may switch to Pepcid (famotidine) 20mg twice daily as an alternative.

In the event you do not wish to switch to Pepcid, please message your healthcare provider utilizing your patient portal at with any additional concerns.
